How to plan your wedding entertainment

Are you planning a destination wedding in Santorini and wonder how to plan your wedding entertainment? In order to create an effective plan for your entertainment you need to know the basic “time zones” of a wedding. A wedding in Santorini would usually start about 15:30 with the arrival of guests at the wedding venue, followed by the bridal walk at about 16:00. The ceremony itself takes about 15 minutes and for about 45 minutes after the ceremony, the couple takes pictures with guests, concluding the ceremony time. Right after the ceremony time, usually, the couple followed by their photographer and videographer, would leave the venue for about 1,5 hours to do a photo tour in nearby locations with an amazing view. Meanwhile the guests will be served drinks and canapes. The time after the ceremony when the couple leaves the venue until their return is called cocktail hour. Typically, after the couple freshens up for a few minutes, when they return to the venue, they are announced by the MC and do the reception entrance together. Following the cocktail hour is the dinner where the couple can also take a small break between dishes, to take sunset pictures and usually before dessert speeches take place. Following the dinner time is cutting of the cake, first dance and the party.

Most wedding venues these days offer a sound system, in case you don’t want to hire a DJ from 16:00 – 01:00. Frankly having a DJ for more than 7 hours is usually an overkill, unless it is a 100+ people wedding. On the other side, choosing a very small package like 3 hours has an effect on the party. The ideal situation, in our opinion is starting the DJ services at the couple’s reception entrance. This way, the couple is announced by the DJ for their entrance, the music at dinner will have a vibe that will keep a baseline energy, the speeches will be controlled by the DJ and also cutting of the cake and first dance will be under his oversight.

Another thing to consider is not stretching the party beyond your guests stamina. Your wedding day will start early for both the couple and the guests. It’s better to have a shorter party and finish when all guests want more, than to drag your party to the point when guests are fatigued and are sitting down. Although it is in our benefit to extend our couples parties, we suggest the end of the party to be about 00:00 and the length to be 3 – 4 hours

Adding extras like live music, traditional dancers or a saxophonist during the party are always a nice way to freshen up your timetable and keep your guests energised. Remember to not overdo it though with back to back acts because this diminishes the effect of every individual act.
